When we give 100%, we’re giving our best. But real High Performance starts when we raise our beliefs, and recognize the possibility of the 110%, the 200%, and the 300% increase in performance. At a recent speaking event in New York, I had the honor of sharing the stage with Seth Godin, a truly innovative thought leader. During his presentation Seth asked everyone in the audience to raise their hands as high as they possibly could. Arms went up high, then he paused, and said, “OK, now raise them a little higher.” And along with some audible laughter, every single hand shot up a little higher.
It was a fun trick, but over time it really resonated with experience. When a boss, or a colleague or a customer asks us for our best, and we’re able to deliver 100%, that IS success. But real High Performance begins when we ask ourselves, what lies beyond success? What if you could learn to give 110% on the first try?
In any pursuit, take the time to make the “extra mile” your baseline. That concentrated action activates a mindset that opens the door to a continuous improvement that can transform your productivity, and your life.
