The Value of Appreciation

Everyone needs to feel the importance of their work, but often, our labor isn’t pleasing because it doesn’t appear to be appreciated or relevant.
Leaders play a critical role in giving our work gravity and purpose. They provide us with a sense of achievement by showing us that our work matters. Mentoring, encouraging, and correcting, when done in a positive manner, all reflect the caring a leader has for his or her charges. True concern for the self-esteem of those we lead generates trust and loyalty in both directions. Without that interplay, the team will never reach peak performance.
Failure is just around the corner when leadership is out of focus. The leader provides the CenterPoint, a clear vision of the overall objective. A correct assessment of what the team is capable of doing will provide guideposts toward determining what is possible.
Leaders I admired and respected all had a certain “joie de vivre” that enabled them to work through the toughest situations. It gave them a positive attitude that was felt by others. Their positive attitude carried with it a sense of being grateful for their team. They were willing to push the envelope and ask you, with their support, to do the same. Knowing that you were supported in your efforts made the journey to success that much easier. Seeds were sown along the way and you were nourished and grew.
As I came into my own leadership roles, I learned the value of compassion and I found my own style set in the bedrock of caring for people. I found that leading wasn’t something to fear. There will always be setbacks, however, when you tap into a genuine care for your charges, finding the solutions to problems becomes a work of enthusiastic team dynamics.
Glad To Be Here!
